Charitable care for service animals

Overview

AVMA member veterinarians who provide charitable veterinary care for dogs and service animals of military veterans may be eligible to apply for a grant through the AVMF. Thanks to the Harold Wetterberg Foundation and generous donors, financial support is available to help with the cost of veterinary medical treatment when a pet owner is a military veteran.

Charitable veterinary medical care for military heroes

After returning home from a tour in Iraq, a U.S. military hero required a service dog to help support the treatment of PTSD. Sir Jaxon, a white Boxer mix was ready to serve. When Sir Jaxon began suffering from extreme neck pain, his owner knew he would require veterinary medical care.
