Michigan State university

Hailey Jennings

“I am truly grateful to the AVMA and AVMF for the opportunity to continue to pursue my project on Prognosis and Immunohistochemical Characterization of Canine Pleomorphic Iridociliary Adenocarcinomas. A second research summer experience will provide me with continued mentorship, professional development, and personal growth, as I pursue my goal of becoming a board-certified anatomic pathologist. I am grateful to contribute to such important research, aiming to fill a critical gap in understanding this aggressive form of intraocular neoplasm in dogs.”

University of Minnesota

Regina Kurandina

“Receiving this grant has given me the incredible opportunity to work with the animals that first inspired my journey toward veterinary school. My project involves close collaboration with a cardiac researcher who specializes in heart conditions affecting sighthounds. As an owner of these dogs, I’ve contributed data to this research in the past, and it’s been a long-standing dream of mine to move from participant to active researcher. I’m deeply committed to advancing our understanding of cardiac issues in both dogs and horses.”

Cornell University

Reed Milnor

Receiving the AVMA/AVMF 2nd Opportunity Summer Research Scholarship is a great honor. The Golden Retriever Lifetime Study contains data with great potential for scientific analysis. This scholarship will allow me to contribute to knowledge on canine genetics with my mentors. Skills acquired as a direct result of this scholarship will be important for my career as a scientist and future veterinarian.”

University of Wisconsin

Kayleigh Rosenaugh

“I am grateful for receiving this award which will allow me to further explore a career in research as well as my interest veterinary ophthalmology. I am excited to continue research this summer for our behavioral vision test, which may provide another option to assess visual function in dogs in veterinary research and clinical settings.”

Kansas State university

Amanda Roth

Receiving the 2nd Opportunity Research Scholarship from the AVMA/AVMF has been instrumental in supporting my development as a future veterinary scientist. This funding has allowed me to actively contribute to research that addresses real-world challenges in animal health—specifically, by investigating anthelmintic resistance in canine hookworms, a growing concern in both veterinary and public health. It’s an incredible opportunity to build critical skills, work alongside inspiring mentors, and deepen my commitment to advancing evidence-based veterinary medicine.”
