AVMF, Zoetis Foundation expand $2.25 million scholarships for veterinary students

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) is pleased to announce an expanded partnership with the Zoetis Foundation that will provide $2.25 million in annual scholarship funding, adding support for veterinary students and expanding support for veterinary technician students as they pursue careers critical to animal health, public health, and food security.

Beginning in 2026, the partnership will increase the value of scholarships available to students nationwide, awarding $10,000 scholarships to 35 veterinary technician students and $25,000 scholarships to 70 veterinary students. The expanded investment comes at a pivotal time for the profession, as students face rising educational costs while the demand for veterinary services continues to grow.

“Veterinary medicine is vital to healthy communities, animal welfare and food security, yet educational debt remains one of the greatest barriers for students pursuing this path,” said Jeannette Ferran Astorga, executive vice president of corporate affairs at Zoetis and president of the Zoetis Foundation. “The Zoetis Foundation is proud to deepen our investment in future veterinary professionals through our partnership with AVMF.”

Astorga said the increased award amounts are designed to help offset student debt while broadening access to training opportunities for students from all backgrounds.

“Our programs are more than grants; they are investments in the next generation of leaders, caregivers, and innovators,” she said. “By reducing the burden of student debt, we’re empowering students to focus on their studies, embrace leadership opportunities, and make meaningful contributions to both animal and public health.”

Through this expanded partnership, AVMF and the Zoetis Foundation aim to help address workforce needs by supporting students earlier in their careers and reducing financial barriers that can limit career choices or discourage students from entering the profession altogether.

AVMF leaders say the partnership exemplifies how collaboration across the profession can create a lasting impact for students and the animals and communities they will serve.

“We’re grateful for the Zoetis Foundation’s continued commitment to veterinary students and to the profession,” said Danielle Johnson, executive director of the AVMF. “These scholarships help remove financial barriers and make a meaningful difference.”
