The AVMF welcomes a new Chair for the 2021-2022 term. Dr. Douglas Kratt transitioned from AVMA President to Chair of the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) at the AVMA House of Delegates (HOD) meeting this past July. His term kicked off during a global pandemic with the AVMF busy providing support to the veterinary profession with programs that help veterinary professionals and pet owners with the increased need for charitable care and natural disasters that the veterinary community responds to - wildfires in the West, flooding in the East, and the start of hurricane season.

Having led the AVMA during the global COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Kratt is no stranger to disaster preparedness and how to support veterinary care teams in crisis. Prior to his role as AVMF Chair, Dr. Kratt’s long list of leadership roles include AVMA President, member of AVMA Strategic Management Committee and Task Force on Volunteer Engagement, Wisconsin's delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates, and president of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association, as well as the owner of Central Animal Hospital in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

“The AVMF board looks forward to continuing our longstanding relationship with Dr. Kratt to provide support and resources to the veterinary community that will help advance animal health and wellbeing,” stated AVMA CEO, Dr. Janet D. Donlin.

As AVMF Chair, Dr. Kratt will focus on driving the mission of the AVMF to develop charitable resources to advance the science and practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal and human health. Currently, AVMF programs include the Disaster Relief Grant Program (including COVID-related grants and natural disasters), the National Charitable Care Grant Program, Educational Support (including scholarships and continuing education for veterinarians), and Research Support.
