Military Veterans Scholarship Review Committee

Call for Military Veterans Student Scholarship Reviewers

In 2016, AVMA and AVMF established a special scholarship in honor of the 100th anniversary for military veterans pursuing an education in veterinary medicine. We are excited to announce that this year, a generous donor has joined us to provide five (5) $9,000 scholarships to veterans of the U.S. Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines and Navy currently in their 1st, 2nd or 3rd year of veterinary school.  As a result, we are currently looking for additional volunteers to serve on our Military Veterans Scholarship Review Committee.

Eligibility

Reviewers must be military veterans, either practicing or retired DVMs, military veteran veterinary students who have been out of veterinary school for five years or more, or who have another strong connection to the veterinary community.

As a member of this committee, you would be asked to read scholarship applications and assign a score to the application.  Essay questions are scored on a scale of 1 to 5.  You do not need to do any mathematical computations – just assign a score to the questions.  Committee members are usually given 2 – 3 weeks to complete their confidential scoring of the applications. The scholarship portal, where you will conduct your reviews, is simple to use. An assignment notification will be emailed to you once you have confirmed your availability.

AVMF staff are available for training if needed.

Timeline

The application cycle for this scholarship is now closed. Check back here or watch the AVMF Facebook page for more information.

  • Reviewer applications accepted: October 5 – October 23

We hope that have an interest in joining this very interesting and respected committee to help award exceptional veterinary students with well-deserved scholarships.
