2025 VPRF/AVMF Pharmacology Research Grant recipients

Congratulations to the recipients of the VPRF/AVMF Pharmacology Research Grants!

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) and the Veterinary Pharmacology Research Foundation (VPRF) are proud to announce the recipients of the 2025 VPRF/AVMF Pharmacology Research Grants. These grants support innovative research aimed at improving patient care and safety in veterinary medicine.

Pharmacology grant recipients—Equine metoclopramide study
University of Georgia

Naomi Crabtree, MS, DACVS-LA, DACVECC-LA

Amy Brandon, DVM, DACVECC-LA

Their project, “Evaluation of Three Subcutaneous Metoclopramide Dosing Strategies in Healthy Adult Horses,”
will examine:

  • Pharmacokinetics and comparison with computer-modeled predictions,
  • Impact on gastrointestinal motility, and
  • Identification of adverse drug reactions.

This research aims to optimize the safe and effective use of metoclopramide in equine medicine,
helping clinicians make evidence-based treatment decisions.

Pharmacokinetic grant recipients—Pregabalin study in rabbits
Oklahoma State University

Amy Brandon DVM DACVECC-LA

Lara Maxwell, DVM, PhD, DACVCP

Anna Claire McMullen, Co-investigator

Their project, “Pharmacokinetics and Dose Proportionality After Oral Administration of Pregabalin to Rabbits,” will explore how pregabalin is processed in rabbits and inform safe, effective dosing strategies for veterinary patients.
