The Stanton Foundation Canine Spectrum of Care Clinical Trials

2025 Grant recipient announced

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) is proud to announce Dr. Kelley Thieman as the inaugural recipient of a new grant funded by The Stanton Foundation, supporting canine clinical research focused on cost-effective diagnostic and treatment options. This initiative aims to help veterinarians provide quality care to clients with limited budgets.

Congratulations, Dr. Kelley Thieman!

“Brachycephalic, or short-nosed, dogs have become increasingly popular. Because these breeds are prone to health problems that can make breathing difficult, some short-nosed dogs may require surgery. Our study will evaluate the effect of weight loss on these dogs’ ability to breathe, with the goal of providing evidence for general practitioners of a potential alternative treatment when surgery is not an option. We are so thankful to receive this grant, which will allow us to perform this study. We are hopeful that we can identify a lower-cost option that will make treatment more accessible for all short-nosed breeds.”
