We Care for Animals
The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) is the charitable arm of the AVMA. For 50 years, the AVMF has been dedicated to embracing and advancing the well-being and medical care of animals. Charitable contributions and support to the Foundation help veterinarians help animals. Initiatives include: Humane Outreach-Animal Welfare, Education and Public Awareness, Research Support, Student Enhancement, and Support of American Veterinary Medical Association and its Initiatives. The AVMF, a two-time, four-star rated nonprofit by Charity Navigator, has awarded more than $50 Million in grants since it began in 1963. As we celebrate our golden anniversary this year, we want to do even more.
Established by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in 1963, AVMF is based in its national headquarters in northwest suburban Chicago. The AVMA, founded in 1863, is one of the oldest and largest veterinary medical organizations in the world, with more than 80,000 current members.
As a nonprofit organization, AVMF relies on the generosity of the animal lover and veterinary communities.
Animal Lovers: Animal emergencies are human emergencies. In the event of a disaster, we want you and your pet to get out safely. The AVMF provides funds for programs that train for disasters and support other humane outreach and animal welfare efforts. We understand the bond you have with your pet and know you want your companion to enjoy many happy, healthy years. Veterinarians are committed to providing care to the animals you share your life with.
Veterinarians: AVMF is your Foundation dedicated to funding the programs that you believe in such as veterinary education and animal research support. AVMF helps fund animal health studies that explore the causes, treatments, and prevention of fatal and infectious diseases by way of innovative medical advancements. Student scholarships help solidify the future of veterinary medicine. They may alleviate tuition or finance travel expenses for education externships.
Introducing Partners for Healthy Pets
The American Veterinary Medical Foundation is proud to be the home of Partners for Healthy Pets, a profession-wide initiative created to ensure that pets receive the preventive healthcare they deserve through regular visits to a veterinarian. Partners for Healthy Pets is the face of the Partnership for Preventive Pet Healthcare, a committee of the AVMF. This unique alliance of more than 50 leading veterinary associations and animal health companies is committed to improving the health of pets by communicating the importance of preventive healthcare. The percentage of America’s 130 million cats and dogs who seek regular veterinary care is steadily declining while the rate of preventable diseases is on the rise.
Partners for Healthy Pets provides tools and resources to veterinarians and their teams that enhance the delivery of preventive healthcare and assist in communicating its value to pet owners. Our goal is what everyone wants and all pets deserve. . . a long and healthy life for the animals we love
Charitable contributions help veterinarians help animals.
