We Care for Animals

The American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) is the charitable arm of the AVMA. For nearly 50 years AVMF has been dedicated to embracing and advancing the well-being and medical care of animals. Charitable contributions and support to the Foundation help veterinarians help animals. Initiatives include: Humane Outreach-Animal Welfare, Education and Public Awareness, Research Support, Student Enhancement, and Support of American Veterinary Medical Association and its Initiatives. In the last decade, AVMF has awarded grants totaling over $10,000,000.

Established by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) in 1963, AVMF is based in its national headquarters in northwest suburban Chicago. The AVMA, founded in 1863, is one of the oldest and largest veterinary medical organizations in the world, with more than 80,000 current members.

As a nonprofit organization, AVMF relies on the generosity of the animal lover and veterinary communities.

Animal Lovers:
Animal emergencies are human emergencies. In the event of a disaster, we want you and your pet to get out safely. The AVMF provides funds for programs that train for disasters and support other humane outreach and animal welfare efforts. We understand the bond you have with your pet and know you want your companion to enjoy many happy, healthy years. Veterinarians are committed to providing care to the animals you share your life with.

Veterinarians:
AVMF is your Foundation dedicated to funding the programs that you believe in such as veterinary education and animal research support. AVMF helps fund animal health studies that explore the causes, treatments, and prevention of fatal and infectious diseases by way of innovative medical advancements. Student scholarships help solidify the future of veterinary medicine. They may alleviate tuition or finance travel expenses for education externships.

Charitable contributions help veterinarians help animals.

AVMF is a national 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization
